The Paintings of Vernon C. Boyle @ The Burton Art Gallery

EXHIBITION March 21 - April 27

Great new exhibition at the Burton on the life and work of bideford born man Vernon C. Boyle.

In layout and content this exhibition is quite similar to their previous show Ackland and Edwards: Read Between the Lines. It has a focus on exposing Vernon C Boyle as a person, not just showcasing his work - which, if you like History like I do, makes an interesting day out. The exhibition consists of watercolours, sketches, photographs and items left behind by the artist.

It is an exposition of work that helps us to see the North Devon area in the past through the life and work of a painter.

On a side note; The Cabin, Bucks Mills (the home belonging to Judith Ackland and Mary Stella Edwards) has an open day on Sunday 5th April.

"A Bidefordian by birth, Vernon C. Boyle, sketched and painted, mainly watercolours, throughout his life wherever he was in the world. His love of shipping, the River Torridge and North Devon inspired much of his work. A rower and active member of Bideford Amateur Athletic Club he was particularly interested in recording Bideford, the estuary, erosion, shipping and boats of all types.
This exhibition of selected works makes interesting connections to many of the watercolours of the area by Hubert Coop in the Burton's Permanent Collection, defining an era and uniquely capturing our past.
This exhibition is generously supported by the Estate of Vernon C. Boyle." source
